My name is Sharon and I've been designing and crafting jewelry for about 35 years. As a
wax artist, I've been lucky enough to work with many highly skilled
and imaginative jewelers in the Salt Lake Valley for almost three
decades. Preferring wax work over metal and stone work, I was
happy to discover that my talents were appreciated and needed by
these fine craftsmen. However, in time, everything gets old (even
me!) and for a while I tried out other money-making endeavors. I even took a stab at retail (not very good at pushing things
on people, so not my best career choice) and eventually I landed the
FUN job of making titanium rings. This was one of my favorite jobs,
but it was really hard on my hands and wrists, so eventually I ended up back
in the wax biz. I was becoming very bored, and not feeling very
creative, when I discovered beaders! I was fascinated by the
wonderful jewelry these people were making with silver wire and
gemstone beads. Had to give it a go. And guess what? I
found out I'm pretty good at it, and I LOVE it! While I still
have my "real" job at
James
Hardwick Jewelers, I find so much pleasure when I sit down with
my beads and silver and get lost in the process of designing and
crafting! So browse around and
see what you think of my work. Comments and questions are always
welcome! Contact me via email
anytime.
My gemstone beads are genuine stone unless otherwise stated.
I love to use well-known and popular stones, as well as the more unique and
unusual. My favorites include blue and green Kyanite, Tourmaline, Andalusite, Russian
Lepidolite, Gaspeite, Chalcedony (in every color imaginable!), Prehnite, and
the vast variety and colors of quartz.
I also love to work
with vintage glass, ancient Roman glass, and sea glass. The Roman
Glass and Sea Glass are new passions for me.
All of the silver components, including wire, headpins, beads and charms are Sterling
Silver or Thai or Bali silver, which have a higher silver
content than Sterling. Thai (Hill Tribe) silver is 99% pure and
although it's not accurate, is often referred to as "fine silver".
Gold Filled wire and
components are not the same as gold plated. The gold is a very heavy
layer of gold that is bonded with heat and pressure to a base metal.
Given proper care, it will not rub or wear off. It is considered a life-time
metal, and offers an affordable alternative now that gold is over
$1500/ounce!
Generally my pieces are one of a kind, but
sometimes I can make a similar piece upon request. Don't hesitate to zip me
an email if you
have questions.
